Children’s Specialty Program Expands Access for Oklahoma Families

Date: 07/01/26

Oklahoma families involved in the child welfare system can now receive added support through the Children’s Specialty Program (CSP).

The Oklahoma Health Care Authority expanded eligibility for the Children’s Specialty Program. Children with their parents and guardians involved in Family Centered Services, trial reunification or DHS custody, including foster care or court supervision, will qualify for enrollment in the Children’s Specialty Program.

Adults who are already enrolled in another SoonerSelect plan have the option to switch to the Children’s Specialty Program when they enter a child welfare case or prevention program.

The program is designed to go beyond standard health care coverage. In addition to medical care, CSP connects members to services that support daily needs to improve health outcomes.

Covered services may include transportation to medical visits, tutoring for school or GED programs, workforce training, and access to community resources such as YMCA memberships. Members may also receive vision care, over the counter supplies, ID access grants, and support with food and personal development goals.

Incentives for healthy activities, such as annual checkups and immunizations, are also available to members. Some benefits require a health risk screening and limitations may apply.

Current eligibility groups remain unchanged, including children in foster care, those receiving adoption assistance, and children in DHS custody or under court supervision.

American Indian and Alaska Native members in tribal custody or receiving prevention services may choose to enroll in CSP. They can also continue to receive care from Indian Health Care Providers and do not have co-pays.

Care management services are available to help members understand their benefits and connect with available resources. This expansion increases access to coordinated care and support services for families at critical points, helping address both health and everyday needs.
