Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment is a federal program that makes sure children and teens under age 21 in SoonerSelect and Children’s Specialty Program (CSP) get regular checkups and the health care they need to stay healthy.

It’s important for children to get checkups and preventive care to help stop health problems or find them early. Finding problems early helps children get treatment sooner and stay healthier over time.

The program covers all health services that a child needs. There is no limit if the service helps fix or improve a health problem. A service does not have to cure a condition to be covered. Covered services include care that helps keep a child’s body or mental health the same or better. This is especially important for children with disabilities. These services can help stop conditions from getting worse, reduce pain, or prevent new health problems. Oklahoma Complete Health provides screenings and checkups that follow national standards from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) for children and teens in foster care.

Services may include:

  • Doctor, nurse practitioner, and hospital care
  • Physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy
  • Home health care, including medical equipment and supplies
  • Mental health and substance use treatment
  • Vision, hearing, and dental care Immunizations

The program does not cover experimental or unproven treatments.

Screenings may include:

  • A full health and growth history
  • Development and behavior screenings
  • Vision, hearing, and dental screenings
  • Lab tests, including lead testing

Medical need is decided for each child based on what that child needs. Care looks at the whole child, including physical health, food needs, feelings, behavior, and help for substance use.
